ABOUT ME

From a very early age I was experimenting with a camera, staging scenes with my dolls and pets, documenting grandmas flowers in her garden, I was always the one at any event happy to be behind the lens capturing moments and never really keen to be in front of it.

As I got older landscape became a real passion, Travels along the beautiful roads of the North and South Islands of NZ on various trips in a classic Mini, There was little time to stop and take a snap so a large majority are from a moving vehicle with moments captured by chance, a quick and creative eye was essential.

This notion of "capturing by chance" moved to a cessna 172 plane during my University years. I used the opportunity of viewing the land from a birds eye view to capture places normally overlooked, However from a distance up in the air I uncovered a symmetry of shapes and patterns, corn fields, cows, farming fences, powerlines. I stitched and edited the aerial photos to create new repetitive patterns resembling fabric.

My major at Elam was sculpture and being able to incorporate photography added an additional element to my work. During my many wanderings I left a "mark" in nature wherever I went. The lens captured these moments as the marks were left to be swept away at any time. The wild west coast of Auckland with its sublime landscape gave me inspiration leading to a series of self portraits. Created in film reel format I invited the viewer into the space and to walk the journey with me. I immersed myself in amongst nature, sharing the lens with some of my natural sculptures. Printed on clear plastic the image disappears or appears depending on the background.

While travelling out of NZ, everyday people and how they live really interested me. Portraying aspects of living life in each place.
